It doesn't get any better for high drama, and the incredibly beautiful music will knock your socks off! Madama Butterfly is the story of a Japanese geisha, and is the most performed opera in North America! Please set aside this day for an experience you won't soon forget! The novel by Mitch Alborn was on the New York Times Bestseller List for more than four years." Stay fit for next year's ski season by keeping your body in
motion. On Saturday morning, April 18, we will hike to the
top of Puu Pia, a small hill in the back of Manoa Valley.
This is a relatively easy, short hike from the trailhead to the
top, but, from the top, after viewing some unique perspectives
of Manoa Valley, there will be "Turkey/Eagle" options for the
return. Those more adventurous may opt for coming down a
steeper hillside, down some old stone stairs, crossing some
wooden bridges, ending up on the Manoa Rd. side of the Valley
rather than the East Manoa Rd. side where we started, and having
a longer walk back to the cars (but really not that far at
all). Whether or not some of us exercise the Eagle option will
depend on the weather and the trail conditions. (I've done it
in the mud and, believe me, we don't want to go there). Go
into Manoa Valley on East Manoa Rd. About .8 mile beyond the
entrance to the Manoa Marketplace parkingl lot, E. Manoa Rd.
goes uphill and ends at Alani Drive. There is a cemetery on the
right (last block of E. Manoa Rd.). Park on the street, and
we will walk up Alani Drive to the trailhead.

My Top Ten Memories of the 2009 Japan trip:
#10 Hearing/catching Wandi before/during/after as she slipped/fell while walking on ice covered sidewalks
# 9 The sound of Jo's voice calling "Robert" behind me on the ski slopes or in my dreams
#8 The ability to buy a can of Asahi or Kirin beer from a vending machine
#7 Constantly asking Doug, "How do you say, 'How much is that?' in Japanese
#6 Listening to Tony's Australian jokes while sampling different types of sake and learning the "green" bottle is best
#5 Missing Steve's call to my room to go to the Eric Clapton concert
#4 The ability to do my laundry and go to the onsen at the same time
#3 The 1 hour bus ride from Sapporo to learn about the Ainu indigenous people and enjoy the surprise of discovering/enjoying an outdoor onsen while watching the snow fall (and of course, a cold can of Asahi after this spiritual experience)
#2 The breathtaking view of Mt. Yotei as the clouds cleared and the sun captured its radiance
And the #1 memory: The laughter, food (crab and fresh sashimi), and friendship I will cherish and remember for a lifetime *priceless* Robert
I have to say that my three days in Tokyo were fun. Navigating the train and subway with our very capable leader, Wandi and her assistant, Robert. We couldn't have gotten around without them. Thank you guys. Going to Mt . Fuji was wonderful, it was clear and beautiful, we were very lucky. Sam
I thought the electronic lift ticket and automatic ski lift shields were very modern, convenient and comfortable. Especially the last few days when the wind and snow really picked up, they were even better than the terrific breakfast of Natto & Softboil eggs that I ate every morning. My real reason for responding, though, is to echo the feelings of the others who thoroughly enjoyed the trip and to express my thanks to you and your ommittee for doing such a great job. Your well thought out plans and patience in communicating them to us were outstanding. I knew exactly what to do or where to be even without knowing how to read, write or speak. Thank you again, Carl
The first day of skiing with my new friend Joanne was epic - blue skies, sunshine and an awesome view of Mt. Yotei. But my solo visit to the Edo Museum in Tokyo was another highlight. A wonderful Japanese lady gave me a two hour guided private tour in flawless English from the 16th to the 21st century - priceless!!! And it was free senior day!!! Guess what?! I just ordered a TOTO washlet! Aloha, Claudia Herfurt
That magical first day at Niseko with clear sky and sunshine on packed powder with narya crowd; followed by blowing snow days and slope lit evenings of clouds drifting up and down and up and down again and again. On second thought, one of my most precious memories of the Japan trip was the joy of watching Novelle and Norissa Goodman enjoying the snow as only a child can. Mahalo so much Blake and Blanca! Darrell
As on non skier on a Ski Trip, I had a wonderful time. I did go snowshoeing but did not get to do the other snow activities as Cheryl Batangan and Gail Tomita and I spent one day touring Kutchan and another day touring Otaru, 1 hour by train. Lot to do even for a non skier. Thanks to everyone for such a great trip and letting me be a part of such a wonderful group! Aloha, Kathleen Ung
Wandi thanks for all your hard work - Gary and Amy such a pleasure meeting you. . . Jo love you to death - - Kevin, Steve, Todd, Robert and Darrell - couldn't meet any nicer guys - Susan, Claudia, "ditto" – nicer women - of course our new friends Ilima and lilly – you are the best. I hope to see all of you or some of you in 2010 – and of course if you ever come to Los Angeles be sure to let me know. .. . Mammoth now has over 15th feet of snow so we'll be skiing there for the next few months - July 4th party on the snow anyone???????? love and peace to you all. Jess
Crab Ramen - $15; Mongolian BBQ - $15; Suzen teaching me how to properly put on my boots and Guy putting Cat Crap on my goggles so I can see - Priceless!!! Kevin
The trip was just fantastic. Having been in the travel industry for many years, the planners of this trip did an excellent job. We enjoyed ourselves, the planned events, and was more than happy with the free time we had to explore this beautiful region of Japan. Let's do it again!! Mahalo and Aloha, Darleen & Lee Lopez
mmmmm. . . what I take away from this 3. the beautiful scarf from Carole Burtt, a truly unexpected surprise 2. the warmth of the people of Japan especially Jessica and Tatsu who did a great job in making this trip a once in a lifetime experience 1. the camaraderie of our ski group .. .. with all the time and effort and worries that we had about this trip . . . . . it turned out to be the best one ever!! Myra
Location, location, location, couldn't get any better. Enjoyed the restaurant in the premises, ate in every night, sipping Cabernet while watching night skiers and shredders zoom down the mountain, life is good!............fergie
Niseko Haiku
Streamer flows in wind
snow falls in onsen spring
contented spirit
Blessings and gratitude, Suzen
Besides the great F words â^À^Ó great friends, great fun, and great food â^À^Ó some of my favorite memories are of watching Doug Kazama trying to hook up Guy Cabral with every single Japanese woman he could find! He even got our JTB agent (Akemi Watanabe) to sing songs and ask Guy to marry her over the loudspeaker during our 3 hour bus ride! Susan Murata
"Great ski club, fantastic trip and night skiing, with POWDER!" Malia
What a wonderful and memorable ski trip. Still thinking about it all week, even at nights. One of my best ever, great food, beautiful mountain, super nice people, clean and courteous, WOW! A very big thank you to the trip committee, for all effort you put in, thank you very much Wandi, Myra, Susan, and whoever else that was involved, just a wonderful and great job! Thank you: Lee and Darleen Lopez for keeping us entertained; Charlie for guiding us thru the whiteouts; Susan for riding with us (a towny can ride); Doug (cheeseburger) 3.9 Iolani; fun moments to name a few.And especially the Lord for watching over each and all of us, keeping us safe! Hope you all had a wonderful time too. Again thank you, and God bless!!! Jon and Momi
PINS! Kangaroo pins from Aussie Tony, ....ski club id buttons,..... and constant reminders to wear them! Wanda
How my ski day progressively slid downhill at Niseko: Black Route....Blue Route....Green Route ....Bus Route....Priceless! Ross
Jackie and I usually ski 14 or 15 days in a 16 day ski trip, so we were a little concerned about only skiing a few days on the Japan trip. However this was our best trip, ever. We really enjoyed Japan! Wish we could have stayed longer. The people were fantastic! The food, the Snow Festival, the museums, everything! I forgot to mention how great the hotels were. Very pleasant and helpful staffs, great food, and very convenient locations. Couldn't have asked for anything better than our days at Tokyo Grand Palace. I could walk to the best concert I'd ever seen, Eric Clapton at the Nippon Budokan! Steve and Jackie
