President's Message
Hope you all had a great
Christmas and Ski Week 2006 in Vail is less than a month away. Checking
the recent snow reports, all of Vail is open with a 50” base and more snow
on the way. There should be no shortage of snow on this trip.
As for SKI WEEK 2007,
please present your choice at January’s General Membership Meeting at th!
e Waikiki Elk’s Lodge. Telluride, Jackson Hole and Sun Peaks will be
discussed. A vote will be taken at the Ski Week 2006 Pizza Party and the
top three venues will be presented to the balance of the membership via
e-mail so that they can cast their votes by the Post Ski Week Party. This
methodology was decided upon by the Board mainly because we’ve found that
generally the same members attend the SKI WEEKS.
Our new website is up and
running and is finally a reliable source of current information, including
our newsletters. I should have the Club brochure printed on different
media for your review and comment.
Thanks for your support
this past year and HAU’OLE MAKAHIKI HOU,

Recent
Events
December was another
exciting month of activities for ski club members. Some watched the
performance of KISMET at Richardson Theatre on December 2. Another group
took the opportunity to relax, have pupus and drinks at Sunset Grill and
then were amazed by Honolulu City Lights. The highlight of the month was
our annual Christmas party. The food was great, and
everyone was dressed in
festive holiday attire. We were amazed by the boat parade, whose winning
entry was an exploding volcano!! Of course we enjoyed "stealing" the best
gifts during the gift exchange where a wine cooler and other holiday
bottles seemed the most desirable!!! A
special thank you to
Darrell and Rheta Large for opening their lovely home to our group.

Announcements:
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
(PAST) DUE :
October was the month to
renew your Ski Club membership, so if you have not done so, please renew
it now so that you will continue to receive the club newsletter.
Ski Club Shirt Order
Since we have a new club
name, now is the time to order new club shirts. We are putting together a
club shirt order that requires a minimum order of 24 shirts.
Ski club members are
always encouraged to wear these shirts to our events to promote the ski
club.
New Ski Club brochure
and Redesigned Website:
A special Thank You to
Michael Cloe who almost single-handedly worked with David Silva, graphic
designer, to produce our first Hawaii Ski Club brochure. This brochure
will be available to all to recruit new members. It includes photos of
club members involved in both winter sports and off-season activities. If
you wish to distribute brochures to potential members or know a location
that might cater to those interested in snowboarding and skiing, please
tell us so that we will give you brochures.
The newly redesigned
Hawaii Ski club website is a “work-in-progress.” Every day John Orendt,
web designer, is adding and updating pages, so check it out at
www.hawaiisnowskiclub.com.
Also the ski board has trademarked the new club name and has registered
the domain name on the internet, so we’re now officially the Hawaii Ski
Club. Thank you to Dave Broderdorf for suggesting that we keep the name
simple and to the point.
Since people are using
the Internet more than ever to search for activities and events,
the Hawaii Ski Club no longer has a telephone hotline.
All activities will be published online at the club website, through
monthly online newsletters, or via email updates to club members.
HELP WANTED.......By
Kathy Mulledy
The activities committee
is looking for ski members to assist with organizing activities and
writing up articles about the ski events. It would be nice to get the
members more involved and also to get a different slant on what goes on at
these events.
