President’s Message

As I viewed over the South shore from atop Diamond Head, I thought how nice it is living in Hawaii

and how much there is to do year round. Surf, golf, great food and weather and meeting a wide

variety of fun people.

The Board is looking into a trip to Kauai in October and would appreciate any input from our Kauai

contingent on activities, lodging, restaurants, etc.

Trip Committee reports that we have around 40 members committed for Ski Week 2007 in Park City

and so it looks to be one of our better attended trips. I just wanted to remind anyone that has

committed who is not a current member that they must be a member in good standing in order to go

on the trip.

I hope to see you all from time to time at the variety of activities planned by the Board.

Aloha,

geof

Ski trip information:

Ski Week at Park City:

Our annual club ski trip will be at Park City, Utah this coming winter. We will be leaving

Honolulu on February 2 at 11:40 PM on a nonstop Delta flight and will arrive in Salt Lake

City at 8:42 AM the following morning. Our return nonstop flight leaves Salt Lake City on

February 10 at 11:30 AM and arrives back in Honolulu at 3:08 PM. We will be staying at

the Park Station Condominium Hotel, located at the foot of Main Street and within easy

walking distance to the Town Lift.

The cost of the full package is $1495 and includes the roundtrip airfare with taxes on

Delta Airlines, 7 nights lodging at Park Station, roundtrip ground transportation, porterage

fee, 5 day lift tickets, lunch on the mountain, NASTAR, and a pizza party. For those who

want only the ground portion of the package, deduct $560. If you're not interested in lift

tickets, deduct $214. We are still working on lift ticket options and will keep you informed.

Most of the condo units at the Park Station will be 2/2 units, although we are also holding

a couple of 3/2 units as well as a 5/4 unit that will be hosting our pot luck and pizza party

gatherings. For those of you who prefer more privacy and would like to have your own 1

bedroom/1 bath condo unit, the cost of the full package will be $1750 per person.

We will have to lock in the Delta Airline seats by mid-July. We have a hold on these seats

for the incredible group rate of $560 per person. For those of you who are still undecided

about joining us on this trip, you must let us know within 2 weeks if you would like to have

the full package. After this deadline, you might still be able to join us but you'll have to find

your own air transportation to Salt Lake City and very likely the ground transportation to

and from the airport as well. So far it appears that 35 club members will be experiencing

the Utah powder of Park City!

By the time you read this article, the July payment will be due. Please adhere to the

payment schedule described below so that we can also meet our deposit schedules for

this trip. Thank you!

The Skier’s Ten Commandments (as copied from a photo in the Ski Room of the Ahwahnee Hotel,

Yosemite, California):

1. Thou shall have no other sports before ski.

2. Thou shalt not take with thee any showshoes, neither any toboggans, nor any other

means of transportation from the heavens above to the earth beneath.

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for what of it?

4. Remember the winter-time and keep in wholly, in the summer shalt thou labor and do all

thy work, but the winter is the season of the ski, thy Lord and master. In its evenings thou

shalt not fritter away the time with backgammon, nor with red-dog, nor michigan, nor

tiddleywinks, nor jig-saw puzzles, but in the sweat of thy brow shalt thou polish and wax

thy skis. For in ten hours shalt thou labor and climb up the hill, and in ten minutes shalt

thou be down again.

5. Carry thy own skis and thy knapsack, that thy friends shall not avoid thee, and that thy

days may be long on the ski trips that thou makest.

6. Thou shalt not dither.

7. Thou shalt not commit sitzmarks.

8. Thou shalt not swipe thy neighbors ski-wax.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness of thy downhill runs, nor thy jump turns, nor thy

telemarks.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s sealskins, nor thy neighbor’s agility, nor his Stem-

Christiania, nor his Closed-Christiania, nor his Open-Christiania., nor any Christiania which

is thy neighbor’s.
