PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
The summer swells have come and gone which means it’s time for our Annual Kick Off Party. This year we have moved it to a more centrally located venue @ Sam Snead’s Tavern in the clubhouse of the Navy Marine Golf Course. And yes, the club will be providing the pupus so bring your checkbooks so you can renew your membership for another year.
Aside from our traditional monthly Pau Hanas, Thanksgiving and Christmas Parties, we have added a neighbor island trip (Kauai) before take off for Park City in January 2007. If there is anyone still interested in coming up on Saturday morning, October 21, I can accommodate them in our condo (2 bd/2 bath) in Lihue. It isn’t luxury, but it is adequate. Let me know before October 11, 2006.
Hope to see you at the events we have planned!
Aloha,
Geof

RECENT ACTIVITIES:
End-of-Summer Celebration:
How do you get 40 adults cheering at a party??? A bunch of rubber duckies floating in a swimming pool!!!! Congratulations to Dick Pickens who was the grand prize winner of the Rubber Duckie races. Thanks to donations from board members, numerous club members and their guests won prizes at the annual Ski Club end-of-summer pool party celebration in September. Somehow Bill Rothe and Rebecca Horne won a prize during almost every race. Rebecca claims that she loves ducks so they swim faster for her!!!!
Special mahalos to Wanda Sowell who provided the scrumptious chocolate fountain that guests enjoyed the entire party and to Kathlyn for the ice cream cake (if you didn’t get a piece of this cake, then you weren’t fast enough !!!). Sam Wright brought her huge slot machine and thanks to Dick and Claire’s son for getting it to work! The food was marvelous, but it was even more exciting to see old club members show up for the event.
Pau Hana @ The Ocean Club – Restaurant Row
About 20 of us met on the lanai at the Ocean Club to enjoy drinks, pupus and “talk story” during Happy Hour on Tuesday evening. Yes it was what it was advertised to be; good cheap food, drinks and nice scenery. I know this local boy was feeling no pain by the time we left.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Every Monday - TENNIS AT KEEHI LAGOON @ 4:30 p.m.
OCTOBER 5: KICK-OFF MEETING: NEW LOCATION
The biggest Hawaii Ski Club event of each year (except for Ski Week!) is the OCTOBER KICK-OFF meeting on October 5th. This year the kick-off meeting will be held at a new location: SAM Snead s TAVERN on the outdoor lanai overlooking the Navy-Marine Golf Course. See below for directions to this new location. Sam Sneads Tavern has a reputation for its great food, so it s important to mark your calendar with this date. Plus there s lots of FREE parking and it s an easy drive to this location from either town, the windward or leeward sides.
The October meeting is also the time to renew your club membership. Complete the enclosed ski club membership renewal form OR you if you have no changes from your last year s membership form (same email address, same telephone numbers, etc), just let Wanda know that no updates to your file are necessary. Don t forget to include a check with your renewal form. The membership fee hasn t changed in over 8 years, and the club uses this money for things like this kick-off party or other ski club events.
The Kick-Off meeting always features lots of door prizes, thanks to donations by members like you. In previous years, almost everyone in attendance walked away with something special. Just like last year, WE ARE ASKING ALL CLUB MEMBERS TO DONATE A DOOR PRIZE to add to the collection of giveaways. It doesn t have to be expensive or brand-new (a recycled gift that you don t want is fine as long as it hasn t been used previously). The more door prizes, the more fun everyone has!!!
