President's Message
Happy Holidays to all of
you and yours. Since I'm writing this before
Thanksgiving I'm going to predict a month of
memorable times for all the club members and
their families. Many thanks from the ski
club to Bill Rothe for hosting Thanksgiving
(11/23) and Margaret and Robert Angell for our
Christmas Party (12/20). While I'm at it, I'd
like to thank those of you who made the journey
to Kahana bay on the 9th for some talented
volleyball, creative croquet, swimming and yummy
BBQ. Then for the wine lovers in the club, they
were thankful it was the first day of Le
Beaujolais. Of course, thanks to Lee Cataldi
, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the club
volunteering with the Salvation Army at the
Blaisdell arena. December's Pau Hana (12/12)
will be a special one with a Honolulu Hale
Christmas light walk up from Phillip Paolo'sat
resturant row. As your president, I would be
thankful for a few new years resolutions by ome
members telling the board they are planning
something for the ski club in "04. Let's do more
in '04 Oh Yeah ! In some cultures there is a
custom to settle debts before the new year. I
bring this up because membership dues are past
due for many members. Please remedy this
situation asap. Of course, your last ski trip
payment is already due in too. Well, Imust start
getting ready for all these activities. Please
come to as many as you can and share your
holiday spirit. Peace on earth, good will to
all, Dave

December Pau Hana- Christmas
Lights A walk among the down town Christmas
displays can put you in the holiday mood and
make you feel like a kid. That's why
December's Pau Hana (12/12 5:30pm.) includes a
walk from Phillip Paolo's at restaurant row to
the Honolulu Hale. We won't be dashing through
the snow, just a casual evening stroll after
everyone has had enough to eat and drink.
Maybe it was some of that Christmas Cheer that
made the lights twinkle bright. What ever is
was, we had a good turnout last year and I'm
sure we will again. Parking is below the row
and should be free at that
hour.
Christmas Party at
Angell's
Saturday, December 20, 6pm on, at
Margaret and Roger Angell's House.
Tis
the season to be Jolly one and all. I hope all
of you can make it to the Christmas party at the
Angells house in Manoa.(12/20 5:30 pm.) This is
always one of the clubs memorable
affairs. Holiday attire is encouraged, there
could be a prize/present for your enthusiasm. As
per our custom, please bring a dish to share
and your favorite beverage. Their will be a
blind gift exchange of course along with the
usual game of second choosing your favorite toy.
I wonder if the coconut will reappear? Let's
target a range of $10-to-$20 for our material
good will. I hope Santa is good to
everyone.
If you have questions or get
lost, call Margaret.
Renewal Reminder-
Lots of good activities
coming up. Including, of course, the big
Snowmass trip. So get those renewals in the
mail. If you need a form drop me an E-mail
(Omerpoirier@earthlink.net ) and I will get a
form out to you straight away.
In Case You Missed It
Volleyball at Amy &
Dave's
We were blessed with a beautiful
Hawaiian day. This made even the scenic drive up
to Kahana bay a joy instead of a trek.
Parking was creative or by shuttle to a nearby
lot. Then many folks took some time to unwind
for a while on the Lanai or lava rock seawall.
As relaxing as sitting by the ocean can be, this
group got more and more playful as the day
wore on. After grillmaster Jeff got everyone
fed, the games in the yard took off in
earnest. After a review of the rules, croquet
balls were heard clacking, along with jeers and
laughter. Bill became play director for the
afternoon and no one broke a mallet over him.
Most every one that could took a turn on the
volleyball court. The teams and side bets
changed with every game. There were some old
school digs for the ball and only a few scrape's
for the heroics. We have some decent players in
the club, if only for a seven foot net. I'm sure
the ball will come out again soon. Some people
took a break between games to cool off in the
ocean and as the sun got lower, the day came to
a unwanted close.
Thanksgiving Party at
Bill Rothe's
Just a great location for a
party (Thanks, Bill). We had a lot of partiers
but not enough to make a dent in the
unprecedented amount of food. By my count we had
2 roasted turkeys, 1 smoked turkey, ham, steak,
and a score of side dishes. There were also a
large number of desserts but I was trying not to
look at them so I can't give an accurate report.
It was a little less risque than previous
Pre-Thanksgiving parties. Also Dave and Amy were
not able to make it. Coincidence?
Congratulations to Margaret
Angell A usually reliable source has told the
editor that Margaret will be singing at Carnegie
Hall. The reliable source was a little hazy
about the details. A source I met on a plane to
Newark told me that the Honololu Symphony Choir
was performing at Carnegie Hall on Sunday
November 30th (My guess is that this is related
somehow. In any case, I'm impressed.
