President's Message
Da, da, da-dum dum, ta-dum,
ta-dum, ta-dum......... Hooray for the US of A! I
know the forth of July is past, but I still
love that marching music, fireworks, and
Everything it stands for. July has been a good
month of events with lots of members
participating. I'm glad when we get a good turn
out, but there is always room for more.
(hint) I hope everyone got excited about our
ski trip by talking to Eric, the Snowmass rep. at
D& B"s. It was nice of him to come by with
promo items since he was on his vacation. We'll
see him again at Snowmass. Special thanks to
the Kelly's for the fourth of July and Honey for
the exciting sail off Waikiki. I hope you all
are enjoying the change of format to our general
meetings. The comments I have received have been
positive so far. If you have an idea for
Improvement please let me know. Some members have
stepped up to organize an event for the club. You
know who they are and many many thanks to them.
Now who wants to take their turn? The board will
always provide support for a good idea. A
little reminder, if you don't get a newsletter, let
me know right away and I'll take care of it. If
you lose your newsletter, call me or the hotline
at 545-snow. I'm going to stop here and go work on
my tan for Bill and Anita's pool party. See
ya'll there. Dave

Swim with Dolphins-Makaha, August
8 Though this is not an official club event,
friends of Jackie Loui are planning a Makaha
kayak/swim for August 9th. If interested, please
read the message from her friends Sandi & Mike
below and email Jackie Loui ASAP at
jloui@hotmail.com.
Aloha! Mike and I
(Sandi) are planning another kayaking trip to
Makua to 'swim with the dolphins'. We're hoping
for a day as GREAT as last year with all the
dolphins we saw. We are planning on going
Saturday, August 9. We need to know asap if you
are interested AND how many kayaks you will need.
Like last year, we can rent kayaks from our
friends at Hawaiianwatersports
(http://www.hawaiianwatersports.com/). And,
depending on how many total kayaks we rent, we
MIGHT be able to deliver them to the beach. The
price, depending on whether you get a single or
double kayak, will be approximately $20-30 per
person. They have 6 double and 3 single kayaks
available. We will need to be at Makua Beach
(directions later) by 6:30am since the dolphins
are in that area early before they head down the
coast by 10am typically. And, Yes, as always,
in the ocean, sharks are a risk. Please remember
that you swim/kayak at your own risk.
In Case You Missed It /Future
Events July 4th at Schofield How can you beat
hearing a thousand guys cheering and applauding as
their home state's admission to the Union is
acknowledged? How can you beat having a cannon
fired with each of fifty admission dates? How can
you beat having a live band play the 1812
Overature with cannon? How can you beat a
magniificent fireworks display carried out right
over your head? How can you beat spending a neat
afternoon and evening with good friends like your
fellow Ski Club members? The answer is, you can't!
And . . . about thirty of us found this out on the
4th of July at Schofield Barracks.
Practice
makes perfect, and Jim Kelly has made it perfect
for many years. I don't believe people realize
that Jim arranges for the site, comes early, puts
up the tent, brings the barbecue, then takes it
all down when the evening is over. This is no
small task and we owe Jim a great vote of thanks
and a big mahalo. We hope you will do it again
next year, Jim. It truly makes a wonderful 4th of
July and a day of comraderie. Future
