CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

Every Monday evening (except on holidays and, of course, during Hawaii Ski Week), at 4:30 PM, a group of ski club members and their friends play tennis at Keehi Lagoon Courts, off  Lagoon Drive.  Stay in shape and enjoy a "careful social hour" afterwards.

September 7  (Thursday) 5 PM General Membership Meeting at Mangiamo, Navy - Marine Golf Course.

October 5 (Thursday) We are back to Rainbow Bay Marina at Pearl Harbor for our annual Kick-Off meeting for the new membership year.   As with our July General Membership Meeting at this venue, the food will be "on the house."

October 7 (Saturday)  Volunteering to pack food at the Hawaii Food Bank.  Please see article below for signup instructions and related information.

November 2 (Thursday) 5 PM General Membership Meeting at Mangiamo, Navy - Marine Golf Course.  A long time ago, in a universe far, far away, our club skied on Mauna Kea, and we are presently planning a presentation on this history at the meeting.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

I hear that everyone had a nice time at Mai Tai's last week and was sorry to have to miss it.  Finally, after 3 years of successfully avoiding COVID, I finally caught it, was still testing positive, and did not want to chance infecting anyone (not to mention the fact that I wasn't supposed to drink anyway).  I'm in the clear now and hope to see you at Mangiamo on September 7 (see below).   Although we had hoped to have our next volunteering activity, packing food at the Food Bank, in early September, we were unable to schedule it until October 7, one month later, just a couple of days following the Kick-Off at Rainbow Bay Marina.  Please note, in the article below, that you need to complete an online application form and are asked to email Mike right afterwards so he can better track the participation.  I'm sorry to have to report that we've lost another member, Chad Wolf of Oregon, who passed from cancer on July 27.  We send our sincerest condolences to his mother, Elizabeth, who remains a member.    The past few weeks have been a banner time for new members with no less than 7 having joined the club:  Welcome to Thomas Torrance, Nancy Smiley, Marlene Young, and Roberta Kokx of Honolulu, Geri Young of Kapaa, Kauai, Wendy Harrison of Murphys, California, and Russell Swain of our ninth island.  Maybe I'll get to meet you "off island" folk on one of our trips.

UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
MANGIAMO BY 604
NAVY MARINE GOLF COURSE
943 VALKENBURGH ST.
September 7 (Thursday) 5 PM

We're back to our normal venue, Mangiamo, for our September General Membership Meeting.  Although the meeting won't begin until 5:30 PM, we'd like you to get there a bit earlier so you can get situated and order your food and drink.   If you haven't yet been to Mangiamo, it is opposite the airport and off of Valkenburgh Street which runs between Nimitz Highway (under the viaduct) and Radford Drive.  Drive almost all the way to Radford Drive and you'll see the entrance to the right.  Mangiamo is on the second floor of the golf course's club house.  See you there.

ANNUAL KICK-OFF MEETING/COOKOUT
RAINBOW BAY MARINA
57 Arizona Memorial Drive
(next to Restaurant 604)
PEARL HARBOR
October 5 (Thursday) 5:00 PM

Come to our Annual Kick-Off (to the new membership year) Meeting, where the food will be "on the house," at Rainbow Bay Marina, Pearl Harbor, Cabana B.  This is the cabana to the right (looking makai) of where we had our July meeting.   If you are a new member since April 1 of this year, you are already current. No need to worry.  If you are joining right now or renewing and haven't already paid by credit card or mailed in your check for the 2022-2023 year, you can bring your check to this meeting, but don't forget to first complete the digital membership form accessed through our website.  If you haven't been to Rainbow Bay Marina, it is the outdoor picnic area with cabanas on the right hand side (facing towards the ocean) of Restaurant 604.     For those of you who unfamiliar with the area, enter Pearl Harbor off Kamehameha Highway as if you were going to the Arizona Memorial, take a right on the inner road (Arizona Memorial Place), and drive approximately 1/4 mile.  As soon as you go under the Ford Island viaduct, you are there. You can park behind the restaurant.  This is BYOB, and please carry out your drink containers rather than deposit of them in the refuse receptacles at the venue or we will forfeit the return of a $100.00 deposit we gave them for cleanup.  Please email me pres@hawaiisnowskiclub.comwith the number in your party, no later than Thursday evening, September 28, so we know how much food to order.

PAST SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

PAU HANA
AT
MAI TAI'S
ALA MOANA CENTER
4TH LEVEL, MAKAI-DIAMOND HEAD SIDE
August 24 (Thursday) 4 PM

It’s been a long time since the ski club had a pau hana at Mai Tai’s on the fourth floor of Ala Moana Center, so on Thursday August 24th a group gathered at the open-air bar. MaiTai’s still offers live music, ample casual seating, and Happy Hour prices with $7 pupus, $5 happy beers, and discounted cocktails. We had a fun time with long-time friends and a few new club members. If you have a favorite bar with Happy Hour prices, let the ski board know for a possible future pau hana.
