PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas tomorrow and a Happy New Year, as it says on the header, a week later.   Also, as you can see on the header, the Newsletter will be on vacation until the April issue in late March:  It will be off skiing with me.   During my absence, however, Jonathan will be soliciting nominations for next year's Board of Directors, and, later, asking you to vote.  Also, you will be receiving a ballot to vote on the destination for Hawaii Ski Week, 2026. Here's how the selection process works.  During the Farewell Dinner at Sun Peaks, participants are asked to nominate destinations for 2026.  Nominators (which can be anyone on this year's trip, and you should begin thinking about it now) are asked to stand and give a short presentation on the ski area they are proposing, touching on factors including, but not limited to, amount of terrain available for all skill levels, proximity to transportation hubs, available attractions outside of skiing/boarding, history of adequate snowfall at the time we go (late January), and approximate cost compared with other destinations. In other words, you need to point out why it would be an attractive and suitable destination for the Club.  Also, you are asked to write a short summary.  A vote is taken following the presentations, and the top 3 are submitted, by email, to the entire club for a vote immediately following our return to Honolulu.  We should know where we are headed for 2026 before the first trip to Japan departs on February 15th.   Again, have a good holiday season, and I hope to see a good number of you at the Pre-Hawaii Ski Week Party on January 11.  As indicated below, don't forget to RSVP  me if you are coming to the Pre-Hawaii Ski Week and/or the Pre-Japan Trips parties.   Finally stay safe out there and pray for snow.

PRE-HAWAII SKI WEEK PARTY/GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
748 KALANIPUU ST.
HONOLULU, HAWAII 96825
JANUARY 11, Saturday, 5 pm.

Mucho Mahalos to Jeff Lilley and Judy Sobin for inviting us again to their home in Hawaii Kai for the Hawaii Ski Week Pre-Trip Party.  As this also serves as our January General Membership Meeting, everyone is invited whether or not you are going on the Sun Peaks tripThe Club will provide the food but beverages are BYOB and you are encouraged to bring a pupu or dessert item which you can share.  To get to Judy's and Jeff's house at 748 Kalanipuu St., turn off Kalanianaole Highway onto Lunalillo Home Road and drive approximately 1.5 miles (about .7 miles past the Esplanade, the site of our Christmas party) where you will find Kalanipuu St. crossing over Lunalillo Home Rd.  Take a left, towards the water, and follow Kalanipuu, which curves back to the left, in the direction you came from, for another .16 miles and you'll see the house on the right with a bear holding a surfboard on the left of the garage.  Please RSVP to me, pres@hawaiisnowskiclub.com , no later than Monday, January 6, if you are coming as we need a headcount for the food.

JAPAN PRE-TRIP PARTY
The Esplanade, 500 Lunalillo Home Road
HONOLULU, HAWAII 96825
February 8, (Saturday), 5 PM

We are back to the Esplanade yet again (and thank you, again, Sam)  for the Japan trips Party.  As with the Pre-Hawaii Ski Week Party above, all Club members, whether or not you are going on the trips, are invited, and,  for the first time for a Japan trip, the main course of food will be provided by the club, but you are encouraged to bring a pupu or dessert to share.  Also, since we need to know how much food to provide, just like for the Pre-Hawaii Ski Week trip, we need a headcount. Please RSVP to me, pres@hawaiisnowskiclub.com , no later than Monday, February 3, if you are coming.

PAST SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS  PARTY
The Esplanade, 500 Lunalillo Home Road
December 14 (Saturday)

Approximately 40 members and a few past members made it to the Esplanade on Saturday to share food and fun.  Although this was a smaller turnout than in previous years, the enthusiasm of those present made up for it.  This year, we ran the gift exchange a bit differently, calling out 3 ticket numbers at the same time to hurry it along, and it worked out very well.  Also, there was enough of the "ono delicious" food to feed double the number present.  Mahalo to Nikki DeWitt for running the gift exchange, her "maiden voyage," in such an exemplary fashion, to Anita Hodges for remembering and taking care of all the necessary details (including keeping me in line), for everyone who took responsibility at the end to make sure that everything was cleaned up and put away, and, last but definitely not least, to Sylvia "Sam" Wright for making the venue available to us.
