PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
Does anybody out there know why our election of officers takes place in April together with our "Income Tax Year," May 1 - April 30, yet our Membership Year and fiscal year, per our By-Laws, is October 1 - September 30? I certainly don't: I think it's one of the "occupational hazards" of our being a volunteer organization which, historically, has had ever-changing officers without all the pertinent history completely passed on to or read by succeeding "administrations." Per last month's election, however, your Board is remaining stable for yet another year. Geoff Chu and both Fergusons (Paul and "Fergie") have been re-elected for new two year terms and I have been re-elected for one more year as your President. Scott Parmley, Jonathan Carr, Roy Manzoku, and Alan Teramura continue on the Board completing the final year of their two year terms, and I would like to welcome Linda Giers back to the Board after a seven year absence. We are now, for the first time in my memory, at our limit of ten. Finally, per nominations, elections, and appointments during our annual Board Dinner/Meeting this past Thursday evening, all officers and Committee Chairs remain in place from last year. Jonathan is our Vice President and Trips Committee Chair, Geoff continues as Treasurer, Paul Ferguson continues as Secretary, "Fergie" continues as Tee Shirt Committee Chair, and Roy continues as Volunteer Services Committee Chair.
Thanks to Roy, who has really stepped up our volunteer activity since he took this charge upon himself several years ago, we are scheduled for our annual lunch service at IHS this coming May 21 (See succeeding article), our third year at the Special Olympics in early June, and will be helping to pack food at Lanakila Meals on Wheels sometime during the next two or three months. Additionally, I'm sure we will be painting a school or two and know for a fact that we will be serving Thanksgiving dinner to the needy at Blaisdell this coming November 24. Stay tuned.
As you can see from the schedule for next month, we are kicking off Memorial Day weekend by going to a Karaoke Bar. Thank you, Bill, for the suggestion and for checking it out. We must have been to a Karaoke Bar at least once in the past, but if we were, I wasn't there---or don't remember it. You all have a month to tune up your vocal chords.
As for other activities, I have been threatening to get back into leading hikes every couple of months or so and WILL be following through on this in a very short time. Long time Ski Club member Cathy Lau suggested, at our last General Membership Meeting, touring a local rum distillery in that operates on alternative energy (which should appeal to our environmentally minded lushes <just joking of course>), and we intend to look into this as well as other outings, etc. which may be suggested. If you have been somewhere/done something which you think might be a fun and/or worthwhile activity for the Club between now and the next snow season, when many of us will be otherwise occupied, please let me know.
Speaking of the next snow season, plans are already underway for Hawaii Ski Week, 2017 at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and for the first time in a long time, the dates for the trip will not be late January - early February. Cost considerations with historical snowfall data suggesting that an earlier date should not be too risky after all, the trip will be January 7 - 14. The earlier dates should be especially welcome to those of us who normally take a second and, maybe, even a third trip per season and have always wanted to spread them out a bit more. This was always the case for me before my forced absences from the snow and, hopefully, will be again.
Hope to see you at the General Membership Meeting this coming Thursday.
A hui hou kakou,
TOBY
UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Irons Table and Tavern
Navy-Marine Golf Course Club House
943 Valkenburgh St., Honolulu, Hawaii
May 5 (Thursday), 5:00 P.M.
Come to Irons Table and Tavern for our May General Membership Meeting In case you haven't been there yet, Irons is the most recent incarnation of Sam Sneads/Seven Palms. Although we like to start ordering food and drink around 5:00 P.M., actual Ski Club "business" won't begin until sometime between 5:30 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. If you are on Nimitz Highway under the freeway structure and going in the Pearl Harbor direction, you take a right hand turn onto Valkenburgh and look for the entrance, on your right, to the Golf Course. You can also get to Valkenburgh from Radford Drive off of Salt Lake Blvd: In this case, the entrance would be on your left. Hope to see you at Irons on May 5.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
at
INSTITUTE FOR HUMAN SERVICES
WOMEN'S AND FAMILY SHELTER
546
Kaaahai St.
Honolulu, Hawaii
May 21 (Saturday), 11:45 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
We have previously served lunch to the
residents of the Men's Shelter on Iwilei Road so this will be a change.
Kaaahai St. is the first left hand turn off
Dillingham Blvd. coming from North King St. towards Honolulu Community College.
If you are coming down Dillingham from the Waiakamilo Rd side, it would be the
first right after the Dillingham entrance to Costco. As there is limited
parking, carpooling may be necessary. After the luncheon service, we will
"grab" our own lunch (paid by the Club) at a nearby location. Please
contact Roy,
roy@hawaiisnowskiclub.com
if you are interested in joining us for this worthy endeavor.

CC's LOUNGE KAROKE BAR & GRILL
Aiea Town Square
99-080 Kauhale St. #D-11
Aiea, Hawaii 96701
May 27 (Friday), 5 P.M.
Let's all get together to kick off the Memorial Day weekend for a pau hana at CC's Lounge, which is a karaoke bar and grill located in the AIEA TOWN SQUARE! It's a small, intimate venue with "happy hour" prices between 5 and 7pm. Their karaoke song book is massive so anyone so inclined will surely find something fitting to perform (or not!!!) One of the bartenders has a very good voice and she loves to join in with the customers or sing on her own when not serving drinks. The food menu is limited but everything is freshly prepared and quite ono!!! SEE YOU THERE!!!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
HAWAII SKI WEEK, 2017
The trip committee has chosen
the week of January 7 to 14 for our 2017
Hawaii ski week to Jackson Hole. We chose these dates because of an
exceptional lodging offer from the Snake River Lodge. The SRL is a ski-in,
walk-out (100 yds) hotel at the base of the gondola in Teton Village. We
are also offering 2,3 and 4 bedroom condos on West Michael Drive in Teton
Village. These are walking distance to a chairlift or a free shuttle to
the gondola. We will be sending out much more information about the trip
shortly, with an online registration form.
THE TRIP COMMITTEE
