CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

Additional events, such as concerts, hikes, excursions, may be added.  Watch your email for possible updates.

Every Monday evening (except on holidays): 4:30 P.M. A group of ski club members and their friends play
tennis at Keehi Lagoon courts, off  Lagoon Drive.  Stay in shape and share refreshments afterwards!

May 7, (Thursday) 6:00 PM:  General Membership Meeting at Schooners Restaurant, Pearl Harbor.

May 21 (Thursday) 5:30 PM: Board Meeting at Henry Loui's, Mapunapuna.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

We had our annual Board Dinner/Meeting, where we welcomed new Board Members, said goodbye to the old, and elected new officers (Board of Directors), on April 9 at Ruth Chris Steakhouse in Waikiki, and all of last year's officers were re-elected to the positions they previously held.  Jonathan Carr is continuing as Vice President, Geoffrey Chu as Treasurer, and Paul Ferguson as Secretary.  Also, Rene "Fergie" Ferguson will be continuing as our "Haberdasher" (tee shirts) and Roy Manzoku as our Volunteer Services Coordinator (and the Special Olympics, at which we volunteered last year, are coming up pretty soon so stay tuned).  Also, prior to our General Membership Meeting last month, our Trip Committee had shrunk to two:  Chair Jonathan Carr and Takeshi "Take" Toma.  I am pleased to report that Alan Teramura, Michael and Del Cloe, new member Jeffrey Au, and John and Kathy Ritter, who actually live in Park City, have joined the Committee and are already hard at work soliciting and evaluating proposals.  As Sundance Film Festival (didn't that used to be held in Sundance?) folk have already spoken for a lot of the rooms around our normal trip time, the Trip Committee is doing quite a dance this year.  Hopefully, Jonathan will have something to report next week at the General Membership Meeting.

As you can see from the Calendar, we are returning to Schooners for the meeting and will probably be there until Seven Palms reopens, I believe in July, under it's new name and management. Whether it will continue to be a welcoming and appropriate location for the Club, however, remains to be seen.  Schooners was fine last month except for the acoustics. If any of you have an idea for an alternative meeting place, let me know.  The location should be on the west side of Honolulu and reasonably unaffected by the usual pau hana gridlock.

We try to have an activity, in addition to the General Membership Meeting, every month and were planning to go to the Tapa Bar, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, on Saturday evening May 23 but, unfortunately, have run into some scheduling difficulties.  If it is rescheduled before the next Newsletter, we will let you know in a separate announcement.   Hope to see you next week at Schooners.

A hui hou,

TOBY

UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
SCHOONER'S RESTAURANT
57 ARIZONA MEMORIAL DRIVE
PEARL HARBOR
May 7 (Thursday) 5:30 PM

On Thursday May 7, we are back to Schooners for our General Membership Meeting, and we hope to have an update on 2016 ski trip plans by the time of the meeting.  Although there are no Sunset Specials for dinner, like we had at Seven Palms, the late afternoon access, I thought, was fine, and we were "well taken care of."    For those of you who weren't there last month and don't know where it's located,  turn off Kamehameha Highway towards the water as if you were going to visit the Arizona Memorial, take a right on the inner road (Arizona Memorial Drive) and drive .25 mile. After you go under the Ford Island overpass, you will see the restaurant on your left (ocean side) with plenty of free parking. See you there.
