PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
The weather this past Christmas weekend in Hawaii, even though not a white one, proved that we live in one of the best places on the planet – clear skies, warm climate and the prevalent spirit of Aloha. When I landed in Kahalui this Monday there were 37 corporate jets parked on the runway apron, proving that even the President of the United States and the “Rich and Famous” agree. Once again, much Mahalos to Darrell and Rheta, who opened up their home to our club for a great Christmas Party. Coupled with the Koko Marina Boat Parade, I was glad to see so many familiar and unfamiliar faces. I am sure a good time was had by all, and we will definitely take them up on their offering of their home again for 2010. So mark your calendars. As the year winds down, we all look forward to another promising ski season. It seems most of the North American resorts have a good amount of snow, especially Mammoth where I’ll be next week. Aspen has accumulated another 18” of base since I last checked a month ago, and they predict an above average snowfall this season. Within a month we will be there!
Aloha,
GEOF

PAST ACTIVITIES:
THANKSGIVING DAY VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY AT THE NBC
Many thanks to all the volunteers who turned out Thanksgiving morning and spent much of the day helping the Salvation Army serve a record number of needy. Some of you had to rush home to prepare your own dinners afterwards. Giving of your time is the best possible support for our community, and you did our club proud, antlers and all!

MANOA VALLEY THEATER'S "WINTER WONDERETTES" ON DECEMBER 4TH
They had us hooked from the moment the snow started falling
behind the window on the set at Manoa Valley Theatre. If there wasn't
enough hilarity in the show already, Roger DeHay provided more, getting on stage
as "Santa Baby" while the 4 Wonderettes purred to him. The holiday show was
enjoyed by nine ski club members.

SKI CLUB CONQUERS AIEA HEIGHTS
On Sunday, December 6th, 18 (Yeah! 18, count 'em--I did---twice) Ski Club members and their friends/family sucessfully completed the Aiea Loop Trail on Aiea Heights. The weather was excellent, the trail, though a little muddy and slippery in a few and short stretches, was in good condition, nobody needed to be medevacked, we completed the hike in approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes, a shorter time than anticipated, and everyone was smiling at the end: A smashing success. Bill Rothe and Rebecca Horne, competing for the Cathy Mulledy prize (arriving late, wondering where we went, and eventually catching up) had to make a decision as to whether we had gone clockwise or counter clockwise and, as luck would have it, made the correct decision. They caught up with the rest of us as we were paused at a splendorous mountain lookout trying to figure out (at least I was), how the powers-that-be had gotten a park bench into such a remote location and how the sneakers had been thrown or placed so high up into the tree leaning off the precipice. Welcome to new member Sonny Crawford and his friends or family, Myra's boss, and others whom we (maybe just I) met for the first time. We'll have another series of hikes next year to help prepare for the 2011 ski season.

ANNUAL SKI CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY
Darrell and Rheta ! How can we thank you enough for again inviting us into your home, for the 6th (I believe) time, to hold our annual Christmas Party. For those of you who have never attended this stellar event, it always starts, of course, with drinking and socializing. With the announcement, "The boats are coming," we all proceed to the backyard, with some descending the gangplank to the floating dock, to watch the boats, strung with Christmas lights and crewed by seamen (and seawomen) in Christmas themed costumes, sail by almost (well almost almost) so close you could touch them. The boats themselves are frequently decorated to look like what they are not and, for me, this year, the most creative design was that of a Mississippi paddle wheeler: I, however, have no idea how it fared with the judges at the other end of the inlet. Then comes a potluck buffet dinner with selections as varied and numerous as those at any Las Vegas hotel but far more exotic. This is followed by the gift exchange wherein each participant has a choice of either taking one from under the tree or taking one away from someone who has already received his/hers. There is always a real popular one which exchanges many hands before the evening is over: This year it was the smoked salmon. Thank you again, Darrell and Rheta, for the venue, and thank you all who participated for the memorable gifts, exotic foods, fine wines, and other "drinkables."
