PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
I was glad to see so many of you at last weekend’s Christmas Party, and I’m sure a good time was had by all. Thanks again to the Larges for hosting the last five parties and kindah starting a Club Christmas Tradition synonymous with Good Times, the Koko Marina Boat Parade, and great company.
After a slow start, it’s definitely ski season. All lifts in Niseko are up and running and the ski resorts in the western states finally got enough snow to open up most of their terrain. As in my pervious President’s Message, there are definitely deals to be had! I am off to Eastern California on Christmas Day to take advantage of the low travel prices and fresh snow.
As far as 2008 goes, the membership has grown 20% and started off with an epic Ski Week in Whistler that made naysayers eat their words that the weather is terrible there. Hopefully, this coming year will be as good.

Please make every effort to attend our pre Ski Week party on January 23rd.
We will be passing out the trip packets to our members who will be going on the
Japan ski trip at this event. We also welcome all our members to participate in
this trip sendoff gathering. Pupus will be served. However, as usual with all
our events, please bring your own drinks.
Directions:
Honolulu Tower (60 N. Beretania Street) is located on the corner of N. Beretania
Street and Maunakea Street, directly across from the Chinese Cultural Plaza
parking structure ramp. Street parking is free after 6 PM. There are also two
large parking lots directly across Beretania Street and across Maunakea Street
from the condo. (1) The underground parking lot is on the corner of Nuuanu and
Beretania. As you head Ewa down Beretania (a one way street), immediately after
you pass Nuuanu, the entrance to the underground parking is on your left. (2)
The second parking area is on Maunakea Street in the Chinese Cultural Plaza
parking structure, very close to the intersection of Maunakea and Beretania.
The gate to the condo rec area is on Maunakea Street, directly across the
entrance to the Chinese Cultural Center parking structure ramp. We will try to
have someone stand by the gate entrance to let you into the rec area. However,
if the locked gate is not manned, please call Wandi's cell phone number
(230-1990) to be let in.

HAWAII SKI WEEK, 2009
(JAPAN TRIP INFORMATION)
PAST ACTIVITIES:
DECEMBER 5TH PAU HANA AT HALEIWA JOE'S IN KANEOHE
Approximately fifteen stalwart Ski Club members found the way to Haleiwa
Joe's for the December Pau Hana, and we even saw at least a couple of Windward
members whom we hardly ever see at Honolulu events but who apparently had no trouble
making a happening in their own backyard. The view from the open
back of the restaurant was to die for: The majestic Koolaus shrouded in
clouds, tantalizing us with spectacular ridgelines in the moments when
the clouds abated; the lush Haiku Gardens immediately below the railing.
Unfortunately, we could have used a shoe horn to better fit into the
thumbnail size bar on the side of the restaurant which is fine for small groups
of three or four but not for one of our size. Still, it was a nice break
from the city, and we got to meet some new and potentially new members who
joined us for the occasion. The time went fast. We will be
back in Honolulu, at Restuarant Row for the next Pau Hana on January 16th (See
announcement above).

CHRISTMAS PARTY AND BOAT PARADE
Saturday, December 20
Waterfront setting with brightly lit yachts passing by, original artwork,
Hennessey cognac, imported Mexican tequila, fine wines, delicious foods,
festively dressed guests, Baileys and Kahlua, wonderful hosts: Was this
the setting of an episode of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"? NO, it
was the Large's home on December 20th which hosted the annual Hawaii Ski Club
Christmas party and Boat Parade!!!!! The gift grab is always the highlight
of the event where a lucky few get to walk away with the most popular gifts
while many depart disappointed. All part of the game and a great time to
say Mele Kalikimaka and Hauoli Makahiki Hou to all our friends. A special mahalo
to Rheta and Darrell Large for again providing the idyllic setting.
Another mahalo goes to those who donated food for the Hawaii Food Bank.
Especially during this holiday season when the economy is weak, we need to
remember those less fortunate than we are.
