PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Ski Season is winding down and last weekend’s early season double head high South shore swell definitely signaled the seasonal switch from snowboard to longboard.

As departing President,  I want to thank departing board members Wanda Sowell, Wanda Sagum, Anita Hodges,  and Craig Shaffer for their support and effort.  Over the last five years, the club has nearly doubled in size,  and they provided the guidance to the two most successful Ski Weeks I can remember since joining the club in 1998.  Hopefully the momentum gained will continue for years to come.

The success of this year’s Ski Week has illustrated to the Board that the membership wants more trips.  With the choice of Telluride for Ski Week 2011, the Trip Committee is also considering two additional trips perhaps in February back to Snowmass and in March to South Lake Tahoe.  More news on this as soon as the Committee can do diligence.

During the off season the Board has planned parties, Pau Hana’s and fitness events.  I urge the membership to support the club by attending for your dues sponsor these events.  If any of the members wants to suggest future club activities for club participation, please let anyone on the Board know.

Aloha and MAHALOS for the support,

GEOF

PAU HANA AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS
Friday, April 9, 5:30 P.M.

Discovery Bay
1778 Ala Moana Blvd.
Honolulu, HI 96815

After much hype, the local franchise of BUFFALO WILD WINGS opened  late July of last year in the location vacated by the Shanghai Bistro.  It has been used a few times for the “Call the Coach” radio show and I have always wanted to check it out but wanted to wait until the “new” wore off.  It is located in the Discovery Bay retail/business area and validated parking is easy to fine and convenient to the pub.  BWW is a casual dining restaurant and sports bar franchise in the United States that is best-known for its buffalo wings.  While the chicken wings are the obvious must try item, the BWW is also known for their Flatbreads. There is a full bar and Happy Hour Specials.  See you there.

PAST ACTIVITIES:

MARCH 21 BIKE RIDE IN WAIMANALO

Nine hardy souls participated in the bike ride - Wanda, Peggy, Kevin, Geoff, Shereen, Claire, Dick, Molly, and myself.   It was a cool and quiet morning for biking. Visited Hilltop horse stables where I ride and then passed several other horse ranches, plant nurseries, the famous Nalo Farms, and also at the end of one road at the base of the Koolaus what appeared to be the home of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement, as evidenced by the huge signs.  Scenery was impressive with trees, flowers, gardens, chickens, ducks, goats, horses, and close-up views of the Koolaus.  I had reported earlier that this would be an easy, flat ride - as I had scouted out the course by car. But those "slight" inclines by car suddenly turned into hills by bike. So the ride took more effort than anticipated. But we all made it back to the park and had a nice picnic lunch. And I'm glad I had a special day to celebrate my birthday. Thank you everyone for coming.
