President's Message
Happy New Year one and all! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and your
wishes fulfilled, if not, you'll just have to wait till next year and
so on.
Mahalo to Darrell and Rheta Large for hosting our Christmas Party on
such short notice. It was a perfect setting...Kuapa Pond is in their
backyard and we were treated to a spectacular boat parade with Santa
and reindeer, hula girls, snowmen, and such lavish decorations...it was
awesome! We sang Christmas Carols to the skirl of the bagpipe which was
quite hilarious. There was plenty of good food, wine and beer flowed
freely and everbyody had a great time.
Mark your calendars for the 14th of January for the general meeting and
pre-Ski Trip Party at the Yum Yum Tree. See you all there.
Fergie
Ski Trip 2005
Don't miss the Pre-Ski Trip Party at Yum Yum Tree on Friday, January 14th @ 6 p.m.
Mahalo Again!
Many thanks to Darrell and Rheta Large for opening their hearts and
home to host the club Christmas Party. There were many in attendance
and a good time was had by all. The boat parade Darrell arranged was
impressive and the singing inspiring.
Thanks again, Darrell and Rheta!
SAOH South Lake Tahoe Ski Trip
For those who would like more skiing or snow boarding, or just want to
enjoy the gaming and casino shows before the Spring Break crowds
arrive, we have another exciting trip set for the week of February
27-March 6. A smaller and less structured event than our big annual
January trips, this one still offers great fun, fellowship, and
skiing/snow boarding at one heck of a price. Built around a basic 4 day
Ski Package at either Harvey's or Harrah's Hotel and Casino beginning
either on Sunday February 27 or Monday, February 28. 2005, additional
days are optional. (Most will probably want to spend at least an extra
day or two). The basic 4 Day Ski Package for two at either hotel
includes:
- Hotel for 4 nights with King or two Queen size beds. ($20.00 extra per night per additional person).
- Six each, four out of five days lift tickets good at Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, or Ski Sierra ski areas.
- $75.00 hotel dining credit.
- Thursday night free entry to Altitudes Night Club. (We can make that a club party)
- Free daily ski storage and hot wax.
- Discount prices for ski equipment rentals.
- One day free cross country skis or Snow Shoes
- Free Shuttle service to all major area ski areas.
- Free hotel parking if you choose to rent a car
Prices:
Harvey's Hotel and Casino - classic or deluxe class room - $719.00 ( again, for 2 people)
- Additional nights- $69.00 Thursday, $129.00 Friday and $149.00 Saturday.
Harrah's Hotel & Casino - Luxury class room- $799.00 (rated the top Hotel-Casino on the lake.)
- Extra night-$109.00, $169.00 Friday, $189.00 Saturday
NOTE: Both hotels are owned by the same company and located across the
street from each other with underground lobby connection. The Central
Reservations agent (also a skier) recommended Harvey's for our club
saying that while Harrah's Hotel and Casino is considered nicer, the
rooms themselves are just as nice at Harvey's for less money. Evening
after ski Pau Hana gathering time and places will be announced in
advance. .
1st. Step: Call Trip Coordinator Darrell Large at 395-6825 or email him
at DarrellandRheta@msn.com with your questions and to register for the
trip.
2nd. Step: Make airline reservations ASAP while prices are good! Call
United Airlines at 1-800-241-6522 or visit the United web site.
(Unfortunately Aloha Airline's direct Reno flights arrive too late at
night to be feasible unless you want to spend the night in Reno.) When
we last checked on December 31st., United was offering Honolulu-Reno
round trip fairs for as low as $412.00, depending on date and time of
day. Assuming two people split $719.00 for a Harvey's package and are
able to book one of the $412.00 seats, we are looking at $809.50 per
person including $38.00 for round-trip Tahoe Express Bus transportation
between Reno Airport and South Lake Tahoe hotels.
3rd. Step: Once you you have confirmed your flight, call 1-800-427-8397
to make a Ski Package Reservation at Harvey's or Harrah's. The Ski
Package may be charged to a credit card and a two week Ski package and
72 hour hotel room cancellation policy applies for full refunds should
your plans change. When you call either hotel, give them Darrell's name
and Harvey's conformation number "CJ65M" if you would like to request a
room on the same floor with other Club participants.
4th. Step: Call Tahoe Express at 1-866-898-2463 to reserve round trip
ground transportation (unless you prefer a rental car) which departs
frequently throughout the day and evening for the one hour and 15
minute trip between the airport and South Lake Tahoe hotels.
Lastly: Email or call Darrell at 395-6825 anytime you have questions or need additional details.
