Message
Since the beginning of my term we've had five new
members/couples join the Ski Club. If this pace continues, it would be
significant growth for the club. I'd like to see everyone reach out to the new
members and make them feel welcome. You know, show some ski club style
aloha. Remember next meeting your first deposit is due for Big White. Save some
money, DO IT NOW. I've already got mine in, if your
wondering. This should be a great trip.
See you at the Yum

two drinks are a buck and the happy hour pupus at Ocean Club are one of the best
deals in town. Validated parking available. For those of you
feeling cultural you can check out the new Art House theater (the theater at
Restaurant Row has switched to a limited run/ "art" film format).
Barbecue/Luau -
Volleyball
When:
August 17 Saturday 12 noon to
6pm
Where: Oahu Club, 6800 Hawaii Kai Drive
Yes it's a rematch for the volleyball contenders and another
infamous Ski Association Hawaiian Summer Luau. The Oahu Club in Hawaii Kai
will once again host this event. Festivities include volleyball, swimming,
soaking in Jacuzzi and indulging in local dishes. A potluck affair but a
hot grill will be available for any of your juicy items to grill. The Oahu
Club has recently gone through some major renovations, so of course, their
prices have increased. The charge for the rental area for the festivities
are $ 10.00 per person. However, the Ski Association will assist with the
cost and cover 50% of the rental fee. Therefore, lower the cost to $ 5.00
per person for members and guests. And, of course, we guarantee you a good
time!!
It would help with planning if you could RSVP by August 10th with Amy Bosich.
But, if you are unable to RSVP and decide to come at the last minute...please
do!!!!!!!!!

In case you Missed
it:
4th of July at
Schofield
It was a fine birthday,
America! One of the best ways to celebrate the 4th is with Ski Club
members at Schofield. There was plenty to celebrate, with beautiful
weather and great food. Former members Rene and Dan Rizzo were back for a
visit, with their kids, Rylie and Ryan. Lee brought the mimosas. The
Army provided the cannons and band. The rest of us were fighting to use
the 3-D glasses for the most trippy way to watch fireworks. Thanks go to
Jim and Vel Kelly for getting our site, and setting up the canopy and
grill. Wanda
Boxcar Racing
On Sat. July 13 about 20 people showed up at the Box Car Race
track located behind Sam's Club on Acacia Road in Pearl City. Around 15
people signed up to race. We all got a briefing on rules, and safety
issues then picked out a box car and pushed it up the starting ramp. We all did
several runs on a practice track, about 10 ft of vertical drop and lots of
turns. Then we all headed over to the race track. The race track
has starting lights like at the drag strip's and a timer at the finish
line. I estimate about a 15 to 20 ft of vertical drop and lots of turns.
The trick was to keep the front tires within the white lines and not cross over
them. We all got to race in each lane and scored points per race finish. The 4
highest points got to race in winner's round. The results of the race were Jim in
4th, Michelle in 3rd, Amy in 2nd,and Rita in 1st. That was the first time
I ever box car raced. Felt like being a kid again. Lots of fun with a
large group of people cheering every racer on. I am looking forward
to going Box Car racing again in the future with the Ski Club. Craig
Taste of Honolulu
Thank you to those who volunteered at the June 30th Taste of
Honolulu. We're not sure who had the best job: Hans in the wine
tent, Lee with all of those great desserts, or Lisa and Wanda at the new
restaurant, Le Bistro!!! All who volunteered their time enjoyed helping
the Easter Seals children. A group met afterwards to sample the food, wines, and
beer, to people-watch, but especially to relax and enjoy the music on the main
stage. Those who stayed long enough were fortunate to hear a Hawaiian lady
of song, Melveen Leed, sing her old and new songs. See you next
year!! Anita
